A well used English Dictionary (Japan)

I think it's pretty safe to say that this student uses their dictionary :)
This is full on "old school". None of that new fangled digital stuff. Just old fashoined well worn pulp ....beaten to a pulp ;)

Mr Men Little Miss is pretty popular right now in Japan. She got the case from me and grabbed the matching pen in Hiroshima just in time for the new School semester. I remember rockin' "Nike ____" and "Incredible Hulk" stuff back when ;)

Shock and awe (Eiken style) guerilla tactics in the classroom

I shocked em' by wipping out a big gun. You can't fake the funk and get by this test. Not if your in J.H. or 1st year H.S.(like these 2) This is guerrilla tactics teaching.
We did a little till they look tired or they start to stress and then I'll flip the script back to the full conversation lesson next week then in one or two weeks (depending on their condition mentally) I'll jump outta the jungle with another page from the pack and teach it so deep so fast they won't even know what just got printed and stored into their brain. When they're passing tests ahead of their classmates (something they always do) they'll be thanking me again.

If your an ALT and you need cheering up please read the previous post.
Just kidding ;)

A Japanese adult's opinion and a Japanese kid's thought + buzzer crazy the Eiken way

A Japanese elementary girls diary. Above. (she's 10)

A Japanese adult woman's opinion on crime in Japan. This was not related to the death penalty but it sometimes is. The Japanese are pretty conservative and most of my students are fully supportive of capital punishment. I'm really happy about that. This was before the opinion was corrected (grammatically).

Like the man in the famous Clint Eastwood movie said

"Hang em'....Hang em' high!!!"

Most kids these girls age can't even read and they're playing the "slap game" or something borderline valueless at their School . Lazy ALT's are the main culprit. I have seen only a couple in 6 years who actually put as much time into lesson planning as they do into weekend and holiday planning. Laughable, recyclable, embarrassing, ineffective, expensive, selfish to the point of severe disconnect with the weight of their job. Pathetic pretty much.
I got a letter from the mother of 3 students today (thanks for the kind letter). She said over the past 5 years I had changed her children's lives. The oldest (H.S.) discusses quantum physics with me which is made easier with the help of Michio Kaku..in English. The 2nd (J.H.)talks about her life and stuff and is just now becoming fully capable of holding a conversation while the 3rd (Elementary) is about a year away from his sister. He's still 5th grade Elementary so he's way ahead of the curve. I also heard another of my 1st year J.H. students bumped into an American girl I met at one of my parties. My student was apparently chatting her up about history and whatevers. I get to see the results of my effort. I couldn't do this job without that reward.
I really feel that most to all the ALT's that don't live in Japan shouldn't even be here. They are part of the problem. Not the cure. Thankfully most of the Schools around here are trying to contract directly with foreigners in Japan instead of gambling with some "I dream of going to Japan someday" Japan sugoi otaku type social loser that has little experience in teaching and didn't really come here to do that anyway.
If your on my blogroll or have been to my parties this isn't about you. Though i did invite an ALT from Hawaii mistakenly assuming she was chill when it turned out she was just another traveling otaku...from Hawaii. Oh well :)

The first kid to get the Eiken question could hit the buzzer....it was pretty close sometimes and if they were wrong well then they lost a point and were out which allowed another student a chance to answer. After the Eiken prep it turned into chaos with the kids just challenging each other on who could turn their backs, sit on their hands and then see who could get to it first. The English value was ...um....limited but I had gotten my lesson in and they were free to burn that energy anyway they liked.

The Big "Get" Japanese kids stuff.

She saved a long time to buy this and she finally reached $300.00 dollars today so she could afford it. Congrats!!

They played the buzzer game today. It's really fun but.... I bought and share this game with another teacher from another school and that can be a problem sometimes.
The word "fair" has different meanings to different people I suppose?

The kids really had fun with it :)

My little kids are starting the "Eiken" process. They are years ahead of their peers so I'm glad to start pushing them early!

A Japanese adults opinion about their own country.

It's a "Hybrid" game :)

The boys mid-level Elementary class played a kinda "Hybrid" game today. It's the PRIUS of board games without the nasty recall ;)

The kid at the board is completing one of the many challenges you must complete to finish/win the game. It can get ridiculously funny.

Cold in Japan "Operation GEEK" (XBMC)

If you watch or listen to music via PC with or thru your Home Theater you outta be using this. XBMC.

After figuring out how to add scripts, this thing is really looking like the coolest piece of code ever written (for media storage/organizing and playback)
***If you get non writable path errors remember that's a Vista/7 thing and you'll have to extract to another folder C:user\documents\namegoeshere and then drag and drop into the xbmc directory. It was the cause of all my stress and once I got over that it wa all cherry :)

The movie folder. You need to use scrapers to get the tag info (if you downloaded your files yourself ;) ) It has a "coverflow mode" in some skins. The pic below is of a skin called "The Operation" with "coverflow" activated. I just downloaded the new Oscar winner "The Hurt Locker" today :)

The music library has coverflow and oogles of other customizing options depending on the skin and plugins

The music player with using an oscilloscope visualization. I have 5000 untaged songs that i have to use Media Monkey for to get the proper cover art.

The weather channel plugin in action :)

Did my last class for the 6 year old's at the local kindergarten. Great kids and great fun. I'm gonna miss em'

March 2010's Top 10/ the "Sniper team"

Congratulations to all the kids who got on the "Top 10"!!

The "shooter" ( part of an English game believe it or not ;)

The Shooters partner. The "Spotter". The spotter doesn't usually stay down range right behind the target but she was alright :) She guided her shooter to the target!!

Ikura is getting kinda comfortable around here lately. I wonder if he kicked Pon-chan's a__ one night and I missed it?
